Supporting Your Childs Learning

The college has put together a number of ways in which parents can help support pupils learning. As well as working with pupils to check homework is completed and they have revised for any upcoming assessments, the following resources are a good place to start when seeking a way to support your child.

An excellent website which covers most of the subjects offered by the College is www.s-cool.co.uk This website offers the students the option to study individual topics, complete some practice GCSE, AS and A2 exam questions and print out revision sheets

Spain, Take the opportunity to speak as much as possible, for example ordering food and drinks, asking for things in shops, buying tickets. It would also be good to pick up leaflets, posters, and timetables etc that you come across. If you can, pop into a tourist information office and ask for a map of the town, which is always free. Make the effort to practise your Spanish whenever you can, for example when asking for directions, for the time, for your room key in the hotel. Try out local TV/radio - can you pick out any words/phrases that you understand? This is appropriate for all year groups.
Activities Year 9 - visit the Fitzwilliam museum in Cambridge or the National Gallery in London to see for yourself the Impressionist works you have been learning about this term.
For GCSE/A level - do you know anyone with friends in Spain? Can you get yourself a pen friend through them? This would be an excellent opportunity to practise your language skills, make a friend and maybe get invited to Spain.
For GCSE/A level Look out for any Spanish films coming out, particularly at the Arts Cinema in Cambridge, where films are shown in the original version with subtitles.

The whole area is a mix of historical/ religious sites.
Every village has its church which is often over looked and rarely visited outside service times. Some have Free Churches of considerable interest. Great Gidding and Little Gidding are excellent examples. The cathedrals at Ely and Peterborough are world class and each college at Cambridge has a chapel of often cathedral standards.
Art galleries and museums are also important places. Peterborough and especially the Fitzwilliam at Cambridge are good places for a half day visit.
