6th Form Rugby lose in Cup but Yr10’s go marching on.....
Sawtry’s First XV travelled to Bishop Stopfords School, Kettering in the fifth round of the Daily Mail Vase. Played in perfect conditions, the Bishop Stopford pack put Sawtry on the back foot from the outset, and eventually their pressure paid off with a push over try. Despite the difference in size with Sawtry having the smaller team, Sawtry started to put some phases together, but too many errors, and strategic kicking from the opposition meant that half time arrived with the score 14 – 0 to Bishop Stopford.
Playing with what wind there was at their backs in the second half, Sawtry were much improved. However, despite playing the majority of the game in the opposition 22, Sawtry were unable to break the defence. Then to add insult to injury, Bishop Stopford scored a breakaway try. Final score 21 – 0.
The lads heads’ never dropped and in the second half showed what they were capable of. As a supporter of the team who has seen a number of the first XV’s games this season, it is obvious they are improving, and now need to push on in their mini-league. And here’s to the retention of the RAF Challenge, for a fourth consecutive year (year 12 lads) on 19 January at PRUFC.
Yr10 continued their excellent cup run with a 36-0 victory over Sir Harry Smith. The boys are now into unchartered territory for the school, still being in the cup after Christmas, and await to see who their opponents are in the next round.

A battered and bruised 6th form rugby team lost 8-14 to Hinchingbrooke in the 2nd round of the national cup. This is the first time we have ever entered this competition as opposed to Hinchingbrooke who first entered it 13 years ago.
Despite leading until the final 3 minutes the boys came up just short against a well drilled Hinchingbrooke team. This was more than 'just another game' with both sides giving it everything. It was a very intense and physical game which we led thanks to a Ritchie Warlow penalty and a David Lyon try, only to see Hinchingbrooke score twice in the last 10 minutes.

Sawtry 1st XV won their first game of the Peterborough Schools league with a hard fought 15-12 win over Spalding Grammar.
Sawtry scored twice in the first half through powerful prop George Hicks. This was followed by captain Josh Casbon right on the stroke of half time.
David Lyon increased the lead to 15-0 with a well taken try from a lineout before complacency set in allowing Spalding to score 2 late tries.
Despite the late rally Sawtry held on to record a deserved win in the first ever 6th form fixture between the two schools.
Year 9 Boys Rubgy Tournament Runners Up

Week Summary from 14th -18th September
On Thursday 17th September Sawtry began their Hunts District School rugby fixtures against Hinchingbrooke School. The teams in Yr8-11 compete in a league competition whilst Yr7 focus on participation and development.
Over 110 boys took the field against Hinchingbrooke and there were creditable wins for the Yr7 A and B teams in their first ever fixture! Team of the week were the Yr10’s who thrashed their opponents 52-0. Blake Heron, Kieran Vallance and Connor Gracey all had excellent games with Blake scoring 2 tries. Nearly as impressive were the Yr8’s who ran out 39-7 winners. New players Eamon Cupitt and Danny Parker both scored 2 tries.
Yr9 came second best to a very good Hinchingbrooke side with Ryan McCurdy scoring 2 tries whilst the Yr11 were unlucky to lose by four points. Their task was made harder by playing most of the game with 14 men due to injuries.
Sawtry also compete in a four way Peterborough league with Kings, Spalding Grammar and Thomas Deacon Academy, and our U15 and U18 sides are entered into the national cup competition.
Year 10 Boys Football - National Cup
On the 14th September the year 10 football team was faced with the first cup meeting of the new season. The first half we struggled to find the back of the net only to pay the price by conceding first after about 20 minutes. We kept on the pressure and a low cross from the by-line prevailed as Gus Murphy potted a sweet strike tying up the score.
The Second half we came out much stronger and dominated most of the play. Another goal from Gus and two goals from Zack Fisher rounded of a solid second half performance. Man of the match was Micheal Raucci, putting in a solid performance to help the result sway back our way.
The results puts us through to the second round of the National Cup.
