Contact between Parents and College

Day-to-day

The form tutor is the member of staff with the most frequent contact with the individual student, and should be the point of all communication about day-to-day matters concerning the student. The student's diary can be used for non-urgent contact with the form tutor relating to a student's work. The form tutor may refer concerns to the Head of Year, to subject teachers or to senior staff as appropriate. Heads of Year, Key Stage Co-ordinators, Deputy Principals, the Vice Principals and the Principal can all be contacted over specific issues. The strength of the Home-College relationship is the basis of the positive and self-disciplined community upon which much of the College's success is built. This relationship is regulated by the Home-School Agreement, as included in Appendices F and G.

Reporting to Parents

Course Descriptions

Booklets with descriptions of all courses at Key Stage Four and Key Stage Five are updated annually. Information on courses at Key Stage 3 is available on the college website and from departments responsible for the individual subjects taught.

Progress Reports

As part of the college ‘Assessment for Learning' programme, a profile outlining performance in each subject will be collated and sent to parents on a number of occasions each academic year. The exact number of profiles sent home is:

The information in this profile will build up throughout the year to provide a very clear picture of the student's performance across the curriculum. These profiles will include results based on current assessments as well as grades for effort, homework and behaviour.

Alongside one of these profiles, the parent will also receive a written report provided by the form tutor covering wider issues relating to the student's personal development. The dates when these reports will be issued is outlined below.

Parents' Evening

  • A full consultation evening for each year group will take place once during the year.
  • Tutors' consultation evenings for Years 7 and 12 usually follow the issue of the first profile.

Other Reports

Key Stage Three results will be issued to parents towards the end of Year 9. A Progress File will be compiled during Key Stage Four and leavers in Year 12 and 13 will be given an opportunity to update their Progress File if they wish. Results of GCSE and A level examinations are issued in August.
