Students in Year 7 and Year 8 now use a reading log, which allows them to record their private reading, review and share information about books they have enjoyed and a method by which teachers and parents can monitor the students’ reading choices.

In addition, the College is now in partnership with lovereading4schools, an online bookshop similar to Amazon but with added benefits. Sawtry Community College has its own pages on the lovereading4schools website, and the books recommended on these pages are either our regular class readers or books recommended by teachers or by the students themselves.

The site also gives students and parents access to reviews and to sample extracts from many of the featured books. In addition, although the books are largely at the same reduced prices as one would find on Amazon, 5% of the cover price of each sale is returned to the school in the form of book vouchers, allowing us to build our own stock of exciting readers!
