Welcome to the Science Department!

The Science Department comprises 12 Teachers, 2 Technicians and 9 classrooms situated within two buildings at Sawtry Community College. The Science block is home to 6 dedicated Science laboratories and the Prep Lab, A further two Science Laboratories and computing suite are located on the ground floor of the Art block. The Science classrooms are named after some important figures in Science:

James Chadwick - Nobel prizewinner who discovered the Neutron

Marie Curie - radioactivity pioneer and double Nobel prizewinner

Leonardo  Da Vinci - Renaissance polymath and inventor

Rosalind Franklin - provided X-ray data vital to the discovery of the structure of DNA

Dorothy Hodgkin - Nobel prizewinner and X-ray crystallography pioneer

Carl Linnaeus - "father of taxonomy" who created binomial nomenclature

Dmitri Mendeleev - created the Periodic Table of the Elements

Louis Pasteur - "father of microbiology" who led understanding into the cause and prevention of disease

Ernest Rutherford - Nobel prizewinner who discovered the atomic nucleus
